How It Works

Foundations of Sexology is a 105-hour continuing education program that includes recorded lectures by Dr. Stephanie Buehler, California licensed psychologist and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist & Supervisor. To round things out, there are journal and popular articles to review, films to watch, and websites to visit.

Activities are designed to be completed within an hour or less. You could complete a lesson each day on your lunch hour, or you can “binge learn” and complete several. Log on while at your desk, in your jammies, or anywhere at all, any time of day that is convenient for you.

When you understand the material, take a quiz–you have three chances to pass. Once you complete all 105 hours of online learning, alert us and we will send you a certificate of completion.

How does this fit in with AASECT? AASECT allows 105 hours of the educational requirements to be completed online. The Buehler Institute affords you the opportunity to use this fact to your advantage!

If you know that you want and are qualified to seek AASECT certification, you can take this program and follow it up with Advanced Topics in Sexology. But you can also take the Comprehensive Program in Sexology for a "one and done" AASECT educational experience that provides ALL 150 hours of learning--this Foundations of Sexology program, plus the Advanced Topics in Sexology.
What about AASECT?
AASECT is the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and is the largest certifying organization for these professions.

Technical Requirements
Although the learning management system will work on any device, it is recommended that you use a computer that allows you to take photos, as you will need to take a photo of yourself before you take any quiz for identification purposes.

The learning management system (LMS) is a separate site where all of the lectures, assignments, discussions, and quizzes take place. You must be comfortable with navigating new sites or using Talent LMS online technical support. You need to know how to follow online instructions on a computer screen, use your camera, bookmark the login page, and so forth. If you have any concerns, you are welcome to email before signing up and we can decide together if an online program is right for you.
