You want to become a sex therapist or sexuality counselor… but how?
Many training programs require travel or being tied to a desk for the weekend. They seem to cost an arm and a leg, too. Yet the desire to help people with their sexual problems pulls at you. It feels like a mission, a purpose, and you are thirsty to learn—how will you ever meet this dream?
Let The Buehler Institute Show You...
You have options. Stay on this page if you want to learn about the Blended Learning Program, which combines the best of two worlds, online education and live seminar training. This program is designed for licensed psychotherapists or for students or interns in a program leading to a degree that allows you to become a licensed psychotherapist. Allied healthcare professionals who wish to counsel patients are also welcome to attend. We also have a Core Knowledge Program that covers 75 of the 90 AASECT-required hours in this area. Or perhaps you are looking for our new International Program that is especially for professionals living in most every country besides the US, Canada, Mexico, and Israel.*
WHAT IS BLENDED LEARNING ALL ABOUT?
If you want high quality learning in a convenient format, this is the program for you. In a year you can earn 150 credits in sex therapy training, virtually all of the education you need for sex therapy certification by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.*
The majority of the coursework is online. Log in whenever you’d like during each Module. Learn by listening to expert recorded lectures, watch thought-provoking documentaries, and participate in lively optional online discussions. Twice a month you can tune into a Google hangout with Dr. Stephanie Buehler to get questions answered and to reflect on what you’ve learned. (Hangouts are also optional, and will be recorded for later viewing.)
Course material is varied and includes lectures, documentaries, website visits, and journal articles. The material is introductory, but at a post-doctoral level to satisfy APA requirements. Courses are broken into sections, so you can choose to complete the entire course in one sitting--or just do as much as you have time for that day.
Twice you’ll come to beautiful Newport Beach, in Orange County, CA (located halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego--"where Disneyland is") for 3-day learning experiences to round out your sex therapy education. Weekends are offered four times a year and are interchangeable so you can select the dates that best suit your schedule. You can take a weekend training right away, or wait until you've completed some or all of the online learning. Breakfast included all three days to make life easier--and the Marriott Newport Beach does an outstanding job!
Dr. Stephanie Buehler is a licensed psychologist in the state of California and has been in practice for over 15 years as a sex and relationship therapist. Dr. Buehler is an in-demand speaker around the US and has been quoted and has many articles published in major media and academic journals. In her former career, she was a public school teacher and worked for an educational publishing company as a writer and editor–which is why the program is stimulating and set up for the way people really learn.
