What Is Blended Learning All About?

The Comprehensive Sexology Program is offered in a "blended" format. If you want high quality learning in a convenient format, this is the program for you. In a year you can earn 150 credits in sex therapy training, all of the education you need for sex therapy certification by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.****
The majority of the coursework is online. Log in whenever you’d like during each Module. Learn by listening to expert recorded lectures, watch thought-provoking documentaries, and participate in lively optional online discussions. Twice a month you can tune into a Google hangout with Dr. Stephanie Buehler to get questions answered and to reflect on what you’ve learned. (Hangouts are also optional, and will be recorded for later viewing.)
Course material is varied and includes lectures, documentaries, website visits, and journal articles. The material is introductory, but at a post-doctoral level to satisfy APA requirements. Courses are broken into sections, so you can choose to complete the entire course in one sitting--or just do as much as you have time for that day.
RESPONSE TO COVID:

Due to COVID, AASECT has approved that the requirement for live hours of training can be fulfilled with synchronous, live online education. We are using a private Zoom space to deliver the same high quality training to you, with guest instructors and all of our curated media intact. Plans are underway now for 2022, when Zoom workshops will continue.

Weekends are offered six times a year and are interchangeable so you can select the dates that best suit your schedule. You can take a weekend training right away, or wait until you've completed some or all of the online learning. The weekend groups are kept small so that you get individual attention. After all, therapy and counseling are intimate endeavors. Learning sex therapy should be an intimate experience, too!

AASECT CERTIFICATION DETAILS
*Fulfilling the educational requirements for AASECT certification does not guarantee certification. There are additional requirements for AASECT certification. Basically, they are:

  1. You must be licensed to practice. Graduate students are welcome, but you cannot turn in your application for certification until you have your license.

  2. You will need to attend a workshop called the Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR). This is an experiential workshop that you must take in person. It is separate from this program so that you can take it wherever and whenever it is convenient to you.

  3. For sex therapist certification, you will need to perform 300 clinical hours of sex therapy under 50 hours of supervision under an AASECT supervisor. For sexuality counselors, you will need to perform 100 clinical hours of counseling under 30 hours of supervision under an AASECT supervisor. This is also separate from this program so that you can choose whomever you wish for supervision; many AASECT supervisors offer remote supervision by Skype, phone, etc. This gives you a broader perspective and may allow you to focus on a particular area, e.g., sexual pain, oncology, kinky sex, transgender clients, etc.
Our Comprehensive Sexology Program was designed by Dr. Stephanie Buehler, licensed psychologist and AASECT-certified sex therapist and supervisor. Dr. Buehler is the author of several books, including What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know about Sex. She had prior careers as an educator for Los Angeles Unified School District and as a writer and editor for an educational publishing company. She designed the program to be accessible, practical, and most of all, thought-provoking. She is an active member of AASECT and other organizations. Dr. Buehler continues to maintain a private practice In Orange County, CA where she is also Hoag Allied Health Staff.
