Program ContentsThis course is book-based using What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know About Sex. The course provides 8 continuing education units.
Intended Audience
This course is recommended both as an introduction to the topic as well as an update for more experienced practitioners of sex and relationship therapy.
Course Objectives
As a result of taking this course, you will be able to:
1. Understand the use of the ecosystemic sexual history questionnaire in clinical use.
2. Describe at least three common couples/sex therapy difficulties and ways to intervene.
3. Use an ecosystemic approach to treating sexual issues in couples as they age.
4. Describe medical interventions in the treatment of pelvic/sexual pain disorders.
5. Use medical family therapy to understand changes in roles and sexuality after various medical illnesses.
6. Identify the multiple disciplines needed to treat many sexual problems, e.g., sexual pain or post-prostatectomy difficulties.
7. Describe a multidisciplinary approach to treating sexual pain disorders.
8. Use ethical decision-making and best practice in treating couples regarding the use of individual therapy.

Exam and Evaluation
You are required to take an exam to demonstrate that you read and understood the material. The book chapters are divided among four separate exams. You will have three tries on each exam to pass at 80% or better. Once you complete the course evaluation, you will be able to automatically download your certificate of completion.
