Let's Talk About Sex:
Using the PLISSIT-R Model

One Hour Recorded CE Webinar
Course Description
The PLISSIT-R model is an effective, useful model for helping therapists new to sex therapy and healthcare providers to ask their clients and patients about sex.  While most providers are aware that many people have sexual issues, they often do not receive any formal training about how to begin the conversation. In this course, participants will learn how to ask permission to talk about sex, determine if the client or patient has a sexual concern, and identify the next step in care. The next step may include conducting a brief sexual assessment or providing a referral. They will also learn how to navigate sensitive conversations about sex; identify potential referral resources; and consider ethics related to beginning a dialogue about sex.
Course Objectives
1. Apply the PLISSIT-R model to determine the level of service that may be required to resolve a sexual issue.
2. Identify three ways to ask an initial question about sexual health.
3. Identify three reasons a person may require intensive sex therapy.
4. Describe a 5-question Brief Sexual History.
5. Identify and avoid three common pitfalls in assessing sexual issues.
6. Identify five types of professionals to whom you may want to refer for additional assessment and services.
7. Determine three ways to become more comfortable talking with clients about sex.
