How do we experience our own sexuality? What about the sexuality of others? Do you understand today’s sexual attitudes and behaviors? How does thinking about, observing, or experiencing that landscape make you feel?
The Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) workshop is a unique experience designed to help professionals confront and understand their countertransference to sexual material brought in by the client
TAKE A SAR AND YOU’LL FIND OUT!
THE SAR IS A UNIQUE GROWTH EXPERIENCE!
People who take a SAR generally emerge with new self-knowledge about their own sexuality. This helps them be more open-minded and compassionate of those clients whose experience of sexuality may be very different from their own.
When we are unable to acknowledge or be in touch with our own misconceptions about the broad span of human sexual behavior, we can end up projecting guilt and shame onto others. Nobody wants that!
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A SAR?
The SAR experience can help anyone in the sexual or mental health field understand sexual attitudes, values, and beliefs. The SAR is for:
Health care providers: Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists
Sex educators of all types, from family planning to college and university instructors
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
The aim of the SAR is to desensitize sex educators, counselors, and therapists so that they can be fully present and open to sexual material of all types. The SAR is designed to be a space for exploring attitudes, values, and beliefs about sex in self and others.
Our SAR includes exposure to sexually explicit material. No one will ever be forced to look at material if it goes against personal values to do so. We encourage everyone, however, to participate in discussions whether or not they have viewed the material.
TIMES AND LOCATION
The SAR will be held at the Marriott Residence Inn in Costa Mesa, CA. Costa Mesa is in Orange County, CA midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. It is convenient to the airport (Santa Ana/John Wayne, code SNA) and all OC attractions, plus a shuttle will take you back and forth. The setting is very casual and intimate. The hotel is at low season so they don't offer a discount rate; you'll need your own reservation.
Once you sign up, we will help you with hotel reservations if needed. Fee includes morning coffee & bagels and catered lunch on Saturday.
We will meet on Friday, January 31, 2019 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. We’ll reconvene on Saturday, February 1, 2019 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. The hours will fly by as we identify, explore, and work through our understanding of a wide, wide, WIDE range of human sexual attitudes, values, and behaviors. I like to keep SAR attendance small so that everyone feels included and safe, so we’ll cap attendance at 15.
Fee for anyone enrolled in The Buehler Institute CE Programs: $329.00
Fee for non-enrolled attendees
Early bird fee: $349.00; after December 1, $369.00 Refund policy: You may request a refund less $50 processing fee by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org before Jan. 15, 2020. No refunds after that date.
