You: A psychotherapist, nurse, allied healthcare professional, or educator who wants to learn basics so you can counsel clients concerning sexual issues. But you’ve found it difficult to find the right training continuing education program, one that is thorough but that doesn’t require all of the expense and time away from home required by most training.
Naming familial and social factors that contribute to sexual identity
Diagnosis and treatment of major sexual disorders
Understanding and treating the LGBTQ client
Understanding and treating the sexually diverse client

The online program is designed to fulfill 75 of the 90 required hours of education in core knowledge for AASECT, but any psychotherapist who wants a better understanding of treating sexual problems is permitted to enroll, as well as sex educators and counselors seeking partial fulfillment of AASECT educational requirements. Please see the Blended Learning Program in Sex Therapy if you want to fulfill all 150 of the AASECT educational requirements to become a certified sex therapist. Don't know what all the AASECT references mean? Visit their website at www.AASECT.org to learn more about the organization process.
The Buehler Institute is approved for continuing education by the American Psychological Association and California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP #16394). The Buehler Institute is also approved by AASECT as an Organizational Provider. Californians, please note that the BBS accepts CEUs that are APA approved.
The 75-hour continuing education program consists of four Modules. Modules are divided into Courses, and Courses are divided into Lessons. Within the Courses, you will find a variety of learning activities, including powerpoint lectures, video clips, website visits, and journal articles that were chosen both for content and interest.
Activities are designed to be completed within an hour or less. You could complete a lesson each day on your lunch hour, or you can “binge learn” and complete several. Log on while at your desk, in your jammies, or anywhere at all, any time of day that is convenient for you.
Once you are enrolled, and before the first quarter begins, you will be sent detailed instructions on how to log into our customized learning management system (we are using Talent LMS). Then the fun begins, as learning modalities are varied:
Watching powerpoint videos narrated by Dr. Buehler
Watching video clips available on the learning management system
Reading academic and popular articles
When you understand the material, take a quiz–you have two chances to pass. Once you complete all four modules, you will receive via mail an attractive certificate that documents your knowledge.
***Why 75 hours and not the full 90 required by AASECT? If you read the fine print of the Core Knowledge Areas for AASECT, you will find that you can only earn 75 of the 90 hours through distance learning. You can get the other 15 hours through attending conferences and other live workshops, or from most any human sexuality college course.
Are you feeling a little confused? Do you want clarification about all of the AASECT requirements as well as The Buehler Institute programs? Then join Dr. Stephanie Buehler on the next informational webinar and she will provide enlightenment on all things AASECT. Please sign up for the newsletter to find out when the next webinar is offered.

Although the learning management system will work on any device, it is recommended that you use a computer that allows you to take photos, as you will need to take a photo of yourself before you take any quiz for identification purposes.
The learning management system (LMS) is a separate site where all of the lectures, assignments, discussions, and quizzes take place. You must be comfortable with navigating new sites or using Talent LMS online technical support. You need to know how to follow online instructions on a computer screen, use your camera, bookmark the login page, and so forth. If you have any concerns, you are welcome to email before signing up and we can decide together if an online program is right for you.
