Supervision is another pillar of AASECT certification. Dr. Stephanie Buehler, a licensed psychologist, has been supervising therapists for over 25 years, and an AASECT Certified Supervisor for two decades.
Dr. Buehler's style of supervision is to help psychotherapists develop their own approach to assessing and treating their sex therapy cases. She does this by freely sharing her wealth of knowledge and clinical experience so that the psychotherapist new to sex therapy builds up confidence--confidence to move forward with a treatment plan, confidence to gently confront clients when needed, confidence to tackle sticky clinical and ethical issues as they arise.
At this time, Dr. Buehler is providing group supervision. Group supervision is a great way to not only learn from Dr. Buehler, but to listen to others describe their cases. In this way, participants learn about a wider array of sexual and relationship issues than they might if they had individual supervision alone. Plus, because working in a new area of practice can feel overwhelming at times, hanging out with other like-minded therapists can be a great form of self-care!
According to AASECT requirements, people can attain up to 25 hours of supervision through group. Each of Dr. Buehler's groups meet six times for a total of 12 hours. Fall groups are now forming on the following dates and times:
