Eight hours of group supervision for therapists and counselors.

Join me (Dr. Stephanie Buehler) on alternate Tuesdays for eight hours of AASECT approved group supervision.  As founder and president of The Buehler Institute, I have over two decades of experience in the field of sex therapy.  My specialty areas are sexual recovery after trauma; sexuality, chronic illness, cancer, and sexual pain disorders; couples sex therapy; infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum sexuality; neurodiversity; kink; sexual/gender minorities; and unique cases.  I am the author of What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know about Sex, 3rd Ed., among others.  Counselors welcome!

AASECT allows 25 of 50 hours for sex therapists and 15 of 30 hours for sexuality counselors.  Group is a great way to learn how to manage your own cases but you also have the opportunity to apply what you've learned to cases of others in the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does group work?

Dates and times are set and chosen in advance. Each group is limited to four participants and goes for two hours so that each participant receives 30 minutes of supervision on a case they present.

How many hours of group supervision can I get?

Groups are designed to meet for six weeks to provide 12 hours of supervision. If you are going for AASECT certification, you can apply a maximum of 25 hours of group toward your requirements.

Do I have to have sex therapy clients on my caseload?

Yes, you do. Although you would learn a lot from listening, group requires active participation. You will need to have a case to present or be able to follow up on a case at each group meeting.

Will Dr. Buehler be my "primary" supervisor?

No. Dr. Buehler is currently only providing group supervision. You will need to identify an AASECT certified supervisor or supervisor-in-training to provide individual supervision and guidance as your "primary" supervisor.

What happens after I sign up?

Once you sign up, Dr. Buehler or someone on the support staff will contact you with details. You will need to sign a contract with Dr. Buehler and provide copies of your license, your resume or CV, the face sheet for your malpractice policy, and proof of AASECT membership.

What about missing a session? Are there any refunds or makeup sessions?

Unfortunately, there is little opportunity to make up missed sessions. Sorry, due to the nature of group supervision there are no refunds for missed sessions. If you change your mind about group before it starts, then please write to us for a full refund. Unfortunately, I am unable to guarantee makeup sessions for group supervision.
